Hosting Images OnlineGuide
8.1.2022

Various services using the wiki engine, and some others, need images to be hosted directly, usually on other services.

What does it mean?

Images being hosted directly means that a page on the website can send a query across the internet and receive the image in response. This means it needs a direct source link to the picture - for example, https://media.manyisles.ch/priv/14/MI22_221_YqhTmGWbXZ3am0q2Y10A4O.png.

You can tell if a link is direct and will work if it ends in an image filetype, such as .jpg or .png. To double check, you can paste the link into the browser - it should look like this. Try it with the sample link above!

Hosting Services

There are various platforms which offer to host images for free. Any one works.

Mystral (Recommended)

With this Many Isles service, all you need to do is slide an image over the input box, or click it and select your file, to smoothly upload it. You can easily manage your images by simply hovering over them. To grab the link, simply click the link icon on the top right of your wished image, and paste it wherever you want!

Imgur

This site is built exactly this purpose. On the top left of the homepage, you'll see a button saying "New Post". Upload your images there.

Once you've uploaded the pictures, grabbing the direct link is a bit harder. The easiest way is to right-click on the image and select "Copy image address". This will copy it directly to your clipboard, and you can paste it in the markdown or wherever you need it.

Pinterest

From the pinterest homepage, click on your account logo (top right). Then, on your account page, click "Share". This will lead you through the process of posting an image. Once this is done, the easiest way to grab the link is to right click the image and select "Copy image address". This will copy it directly to your clipboard, and you can paste it in the markdown or wherever you need it.
